Catherine Marie Hove, 62, of Mason City passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Cathy was born on April 14, 1962 to John and Jane (Shaw) Last in Ottumwa, Iowa. She graduated from Northwood Kensett High School in 1980 before continuing her education at Hamilton Business College. Throughout her life, she worked in various roles, most notably as a medical transcriptionist and a client service specialist for Principal Financial Group.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: spending time on her patio soaking up the sun, capturing the beauty of clouds, sunsets, and winter trees through her photography, and caring deeply for her beloved fur babies. She enjoyed playing pool and cards, writing letters to the editor, volunteering and indulging in afternoon naps. Moments spent with friends, and above all, time with her children; Nicholas, Zachary and Micah were among her greatest joys.

A woman of faith, Cathy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she dedicated her time to teaching Sunday School, assisting with confirmation, and serving meals. Her devotion to service reflected her compassionate and giving nature.

Cathy’s presence was one of warmth, determination, and loyalty. She was known for her generous heart, unwavering work ethic, and a spirit as feisty as it was kind. Hardworking, stubborn in the best ways she was always willing to lend a hand. She had a knack for making those around her feel valued and loved. Through both challenges and triumphs, she embraced life with resilience, often reminding those around her that “Life is good.”

Those left to cherish Cathy’s memory are her children Nicholas Hove of Mason City, IA, Zachary (Christa) Chavez of Ankeny, IA and Micah (Alex) Mord of Colorado Springs, CO; a baby granddaughter on the way; siblings Robert Last of Waukee, IA and John Last of Ottumwa, IA as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Cathy is preceded in death by her parents John and Jane Last; grandparents Darrell and Beanie Shaw and Robert and Helen Last; Nicholas’ father Todd Hove and Zachary and Micah’s father Mike Chavez.
